Is Switzerland Ready for the Quantum Threat?
Quantum computing attacks are no longer a distant risk: it is accelerating, with potential breakthroughs expected as early as 2028. While Switzerland follows a principle-based, technology-neutral regulatory approach, the financial sector cannot afford to stay passive.

Today, there is no dedicated quantum-safe framework, yet the risks are mounting, particularly with bad actor strategies like "Harvest Now, Decrypt Later" threatening data security. The Swiss Financial Innovation Desk (FIND) highlights the urgency for financial institutions to take proactive steps and align with global efforts in post-quantum cryptography (PQC).

This publication explores the regulatory landscape, identifies key vulnerabilities, and proposes a seven-step action plan to help Switzerland’s financial sector navigate the quantum transition. Proactive steps today will be key to safeguarding Switzerland’s reputation as a trusted global financial hub.
